The Dean Pen Assembly is located in the district of Dean Pen, two miles from the town of Highgate in St. Mary. This is going westwards on the main road to Guys Hill in St. Catherine.
The plot of land on which the church is situated, was donated by Sis. Pearle Cameron and her daughter, Hermalyn Sterling, the latter now a member of the body. The instrumentality of both mother and daughter was based on a wish by the late husband and father of the donors, who had asked that after his death that the land be donated to the true church. This wish was finally carried out and after thirty years, a Sanctuary was built on the site of a former church.
On September 29, 2001, Bro. And Sis. Jones was immersed into the body of the Seventh Day Church of God at 20 East Road. Approximately one month later, Pastor H. J. Waugh announced that he was divinely led to ask this couple to be in charge of the erection of a Sanctuary on the donated site. The site was first visited by two ministers. Namely: Pastors L. Dennis and Pastor G. Baker on November 18, 2001. These persons were instrumental in the erection of the Sanctuary.
Thereafter, plans were put in place to start the construction. Work commenced shortly after and with God’s help by July 5, 2003, the first Sabbath worship was held. For this Sabbath, the theme was “The Better Way” with Deacon L. Jones moderating and Pastor G. Baker breaking the Bread of Life.
We were happy to have our Overseer, Pastor H. J. Waugh at our second Sabbath worship, delivering a message entitled “Escape For Thy Life”. Prior to this, there were prayer meetings being held weekly in the unfinished building.
The first set of members was the Chen’s family including Sis. Enid Thomas and Sis. C. Edwards. Sis. H. Sterling and daughter, Marsha Sterling followed. Shortly, on May 16, 2004, Dean Pen had its first baptism with the emersion of Sis. Joycelyn Edwards – the angels rejoiced with the winning of a soul. God has been good and the church building continues to be improved until it reached a fairly steadfast state, and so, was dedicated to the Lord on July 11, 2004.
Thank God for leading us thus far, And by His grace, He still lead us home.
